my apple music relay'23
I really don’t find a lot of time listening to music these years. but when I do, usually on the road walking or drivinhg, I try to listen wholeheartedly. every music streaming platform seems to have the year review kind of feature, where it gives you an instagram-story-ready post on your listening statistics throughout the year.
here’s the Top Artists I got from apple music:
Top Artists (out of 919 total artists)
- Joni Mitchell (1,031 mins)
- Bee Gees (853 mins)
- Emerson, Lake & Palmer (627 mins)
- Pink Floyd (612 mins)
- The Beatles (558 mins)
people often stick to artists they like, but i don’t find it a healthy music diet. the top 5 artists last year are mostly different:
- Pink Floyd (521 mins)
- King Crimson (413 mins)
- Sir Simon Rattle (364 mins)
- ABBA (357 mins)
- Vienna Philharmonic (353 mins)
I do listen to a lot of classical music, but I don’t get how a conductor and an orchestra could make the list. I don’t really choose conductors or orchestra while listening.
the only band made the top 5 list for the two continuous years, Pink Floyd, is hardly counted as my favorite artist. I listened to it more, simply because, a, it is the 50 anniversary of The Dark Side of the Moon, and it got a whole new remastered album; and b, I didn’t really get the music of Pink Floyd back then, I really like their early works from 1967–1971, but as for The Dark Side? is this album overpraised? I’ve always had that question, and found out it isn’t, after listening to a ton of it.
one thing i figured out over the years is that, don’t try to understand an art work in its narrow sense, lyrics, melody line, harmonization, arrangements… instead, just turn up the volume, listen and feel with your body, and see if it moves you or not.
